Act Now for Peace’: Abuja Hosts International Day of Peace 2025 Commemoration
Abuja, Nigeria – The city of Abuja came alive as stakeholders, civil society leaders, peace advocates, and changemakers gathered to commemorate the 2025 International Day of Peace, organized by the Engage Empower Educate Initiative (EEEI). Held under the theme “Act Now for a Peaceful World”, the summit urged Africans to take immediate action against violence, hate, and inequality.
A Bold Call for Peace and Women’s Leadership
In his keynote address, Kalada Belema Meshack-Hart, Executive Director of EEEI, emphasized the urgency of acting collectively for peace. Drawing parallels with the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, he warned that prejudice and silence in the face of intolerance could destroy generations.

The summit also unveiled the Women Peace Ambassadors Initiative, which aims to train 10 million women peace ambassadors across Africa in 10 years. According to Meshack-Hart, empowering women as peace leaders is not symbolic but strategic, given their unique role in reconciliation, healing, and community transformation.
“Peace is not accidental—it is intentional. It begins with remembering, teaching, and choosing a different path,” he said.
One of the key highlights of the event was the launch of the EEEI Peace Manual, a practical guide for communities, schools, and leaders to promote dialogue, conflict resolution, and unity at the grassroots level.
Prominent security strategist Dr. David Okoror further called on women to take charge as agents of peace and change, urging them to move beyond complaints and step into leadership roles that will shape sustainable societies.
The event featured engaging panel discussions, performances, and the inauguration of peace ambassadors, leaving participants with a renewed commitment to dialogue, reconciliation, and action.
“Let this day be remembered as the day we moved from commemoration to commitment—where every man, woman, and youth decided to act now for a peaceful world,” Meshack-Hart declared.

The 2025 International Day of Peace in Abuja was not just a ceremony but the beginning of a movement—empowering women, strengthening communities, and advancing a peaceful Africa for generations to come.
