As Nigeria geared up for its general elections, there was a lot of excitement and anticipation in the air. It was important to us as a women centered organization, to approach these elections with a critical eye and a commitment to holding our elected officials accountable for the promises they make during their campaigns.
The election season is often marked by an array of promises made by politicians who are seeking our votes, from improved infrastructure, better healthcare, improved women participation in politics, ending SGBV, and security.
There are many issues that politicians promise to address if elected, while these promises can be alluring, it is important that we evaluate them carefully and critically. One of the best ways to do this is to keep a close eye on the campaign promises and hold them accountable, this became the bane of our social media campaign #followthecampaignpromises to intimate women on these promises so that it can better inform their voting choices.
You can join our movement and further amplify this campaign to advocate for transparency and accountability in government. Together we can monitor the performance of elected officials and push for reforms that ensure that campaign promises are fulfilled, #followthecampaignpromises on all our social media.
